Surfing the wave: Under the roof - and under wirelessly controlled light
The "Rheinriff" is the largest indoor surfing facility in the world and also functions as an event location and coworking space. Light from Oktalite and TRILUX adapts flexibly to the various usage situations thanks to the LiveLink Retail lighting management system.

Area
The historic industrial hall on Düsseldorf's "Areal Böhler" now boasts around 6,000 square meters of beach atmosphere, used flexibly as an indoor surf hall, event and coworking space. The retail experts pursued clear strategies when designing this sports and event location: they established a strong brand, created an authentic atmosphere and developed a differentiated, experience-oriented spatial structure.
They implemented the concept consistently in terms of materials, colors, furnishings - and with high-quality, intelligent lighting. The interior designers were Agnes Cakir and Lars Oliver Fischer, planners with a focus on retail design and extensive experience in brand and customer experience.
The right lighting for this: highly flexible, efficient and digitally controllable. Oktalite's lighting concept combines the extremely different requirements of the various functional zones, from the central "standing wave" to the beach volleyball courts and the reception, catering and work/conference areas, with a design "common thread".
The hexagon above the surfing pool consists of So-Tube D tube luminaires from TRILUX. Like all the powerful light above the sports areas, they have a neutral color temperature of 4000K. The reception, lounge and catering areas, on the other hand, are illuminated with the special Efficient White light color, which has a warmer effect at 3000K and impresses with its rich colors.
Oktalite concentrated on the technical lighting and its control, while interior designers and operators added various decorative luminaires and lighting objects. The entire lighting is integrated into an intelligent control system. It is divided into the various room and functional areas and uses wireless technology (Bluetooth LE). The highlight: a hexagonal light structure based on the logo directly above the "standing wave" at the heart of the surf hall.
The key to illuminating the various functional areas individually, efficiently and conveniently lies in the control via the lighting management system: it links several hundred luminaires to form a network. Operation is intuitive via tablet or smartphone.
Skylights in the hall roof and rudimentary hall lighting in the existing building ensure a minimum of basic lighting. This allowed the lighting design to concentrate on the functional lighting and staging of the specific room zones. Cylindrical track spotlights in black form a continuous element that perform a variety of tasks. Depending on the brightness requirements and room height, either the powerful B.Veo spotlights or the more compact Lenty Track-spotlights are used.
